Attendance and Missed Classes

Regular attendance is expected and appreciated.  No refunds will be given to students who miss class.  Students who do not attend regularly (4 or more *unexcused absences during this time) may be asked to discontinue with recital plans as their absence affects the entire class.  *Excused absences include the following:  illness with a doctor’s note; family emergency (death in the family); school commitment approved ahead of time (award ceremony, band concert, not rehearsals of any kind).

Recital attendance:  Rehearsals are mandatory.  Students must commit to all rehearsal and recital dates.  If a student is unable to attend one night of the performances, a minimum of 2 months notice is required to remain in the show.

Punctuality
Arriving on time is mandatory to assist in injury prevention.  If a student misses a warm-up or is more than 10 minutes late for a class, they may be asked to observe the class rather than dance.  This rule is in place to prevent harm to our students.

Class Placement

Creative Movement 1:      2 & 3 years old, Creative movement only
Creative Movement 2:      4 years old, Creative movement with tap
Pre-Ballet/Pre-Tap:           5 years old, intro to Ballet and Tap
Tot Hop:                        4 and 5 year olds, intro to Hip Hop
Pre-Jazz:                        4 and 5 year olds, intro to Jazz
Combo Classes:               6 & 7 year olds, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Musical Theater

All other classes are placed by ability, not age.  A student is not always moved to the next level.  At times, it is recommended that a student repeat a level.  Please keep in mind that this is very normal in this field of education.

Tuition and Fees

Registration:  We require a non-refundable registration fee of $25.00 per student.  Family registration of two or more students is $35.00.  Fees are due at the time of registration.  A discount of $5.00 may be taken if paid in full by Recital of the previous season.
Holding Fee:  A $10.00 per class holding fee is required upon registration.  This fee will guarantee classes signed up for in the following fall and will be credited to the child’s account in September provided that they remain in the specific classes signed up for.

Tuition:
The first Payment is due in full prior to the start of classes in the Fall.  Tuition is always due on the FIRST of the month of the new semester.  Late payments must include a $10.00 late fee for the first 10 days, and a $10 late fee for every 10 days following.  Students that carry an overdue balance for more than 30 days risk expulsion.  Semester payments are as follows:
 Due September 1st:  September tuition
Due October 1st:  October tuition and Costume Deposits
Due November 1st:  November and December tuition
Due January 1st:  January and February Tuition and Costume Balances
Due March 1st:  March and April Tuition
Due May 1st:  May & possibly June depending on when recital is
**Payment plans are available, please inquire in the office.
Costume Deposit:  A $25.00 per class deposit is due with the first semester payment.  Costume deposits are non-refundable after October 31.  All costume balances are due by January 1, so costume orders can be placed.  No refunds are made on costume payments.  If a student drops prior to receiving their costume, it then becomes the property of the Mendon Dance Center; no refund will be made of any kind for costumes already ordered.  Costumes cannot be taken if all balances are not current.
Returned Checks:  There will be a fee of $25.00 for all returned checks.
Discounts:  5+ Classes Discount of 10% off the balance or a 10+ Classes Discount of 20% off the entire tuition depending on the number of classes your child takes.  Discounts may be cancelled if account is not in good standing.
AVOID LATE FEES:  If you would like to sign up for Auto pay using either a debit or credit card, please read, fill information in and sign the appropriate release on the registration form.

Snow Days and Cancellations

In the event of sever inclement weather and there is a question of whether or not classes will be held, please call the Mendon Dance Center after 2:00 p.m. for any afternoon classes – there will be a recorded message if classes are cancelled.  If it is a morning class, please call before 9:00 a.m.  You may also check the web for cancelled classes at:  www.mdcdance.com  No refunds will be made.

Costumes

Creative Movement:  Typically, one costume is required for performance.  The average price will be approximately $60.00.
Combo Classes:  Expect one costume per class to be ordered, whenever possible, two-in-one style costumes will be used.  The average price will be approximately $50.00 per costume – when at all possible; a 2-in-1 costume will be.
Beginner Level and Up:  Students and parents should expect an average of $65.00 per class in costume fees.  We try to keep cost down by reusing or purchasing costumes for more than one dance.  Older students typically have the highest balances due to the number of classes taken.
Opening/Finale:  Each year, one class is chosen to perform the Opening and Finale numbers in the Recital.  These students will have additional costume expenses.  Students in the Senior and Advanced levels should assume they will be involved in all shows.

**All students are required to wear a body liner and tights at recital.  In rare cases, this requirement may be waived by Miss Leslie.  Any student who joins classes after November 1st will incur an additional $10 fee per costume if we are able to order it.
